We decided to make the lovely Polina Dress with the flared sash and circle skirt and flutter sleeves. I used this tutorial though Audrey used the frills from the pattern, which is pretty smart. You could also use the flutters from the Eleena Dress. I am counting this dress as her Easter/birthday/baptism dress!





We determined we should make a size eight even though Ansley's chest measures a size seven so she can wear it longer. She has requested another just like it!



This fabric is a 100% lyocell from Joann. The listing calls it chambray but then the description says it's a chambray alternative. It feels just like the Nicole Miller tencel I picked up last fall. There was just enough left on the bolt for this dress- totally meant to be! The lyocell/tencel is so soft and has a slight sheen and a pretty drape but it still has some substance. It cut much nicer than my (unblogged) dress because I got my scissors sharpened! I used a new needle and my walking foot for most of the sewing and it worked well.



This pattern calls for interfacing the neckline and the armholes and where the sash attaches so I had to be careful cutting my interfacing since the fabric is so light and it is slightly visible through the fabric. I made sure to make pattern pieces of the interfacing so the process will go faster the next time I make this dress.



I chose to make the lined bodice and I french seamed the skirt. This dress is beautiful inside and out! And this is the prettiest bow I have ever sewn.



We used these special storm trooper KAM snaps instead of buttons because my machine hates making button holes and we had just the right amount of storm trooper snaps for this dress.

Schooner Tee (and Dress) by Jennuine Designs

When I saw the line drawing for the Schooner Tee and Dress I was really excited and slightly stumped by how the flutter sleeves are created. I was fortunate to be selected for pattern testing this clever design! I have sewn a few (unblogged but you can see pictures on instagram @replicatethendeviate) of Jennifer's patterns before (the Verona Dress and the Dressage Leggings) and appreciate the fit and thoughtful construction.

I tested a size seven based on Ansley's measurements. This first version is sewn with rayon spandex (I'm like 99% sure) from LA Finch Fabrics, part of what I ordered last year with the winnings from a giveaway by the lovely Fleurine. It came together easily and fits really well. I used my regular sewing machine for this version, including the hems.

The second version is the final version, also in a size seven. (Modeled with the dressage leggings, with fabric from Joanns) I used french terry from Joanns (not the nicest stuff but it was in The Stash). It doesn't have the best stretch or recovery so I used a scrap of sparkly swim knit for the neckband. Construction was easy and I used my serger for the sides and neckband (after basting because I'm a serger newbie) and the arm "hem." The instructions include a link for a lettuce hem but I just used a regular one because I haven't messed around with the tension or removing needles (though I did manage to rethread it several times!). I serged the bottom too but it kept curling so I pressed it under once and then hemmed it on my sewing machine. This particular french terry tends to shred/lint at the seams.











There is a dress version included with this pattern and it has pockets(!) as well as a high low option for the tee (mine are both regular length).
