An Afternoon in Balboa Park

It was getting kind of dark and Ansley threw an awesome tantrum b/c we wouldn't let her push her stroller into people but we still had a fun time. I'm pretty sure there's a picture of me and my sister, Jen, by this same fountain! If my dad finds it, I'll post it. :) I wish we had more time to explore and hike some of the paths.

I made Ansley's dress using Me Sew Crazy's Julie's Dress pattern. I love the full skirt, the multiple tiers and the slit and button closure in the back. I made my own bias tape b/c I couldn't find any that matched enough. I also didn't buy anything to make this dress- everything was from my stash. The lining is from a clearanced bed sheet, bought the same time as the bed sheet I used in this dress.

Christmas Sewing

I made this fleece jacket for my sister based on a boiled wool jacket I found at a thrift store for $3. Anyone have a good source for boiled wool? I didn't realize the jacket was wrinkled in the pictures until we got home; it does actually lay flat. I'd redo the pictures if Cynthia didn't live 200 miles away. Also, I interfaced the collar but don't like how it lays. I think I'll try just a double layer of fleece if there is a next time. The skirt is a simple circle skirt with an elastic band, with fabric she picked out.

Oh and one more little thing- some burp cloths for Jen's baby. I'd never sewn burp cloths before and they went together nicely.

Guess Who's Back

Back again. (name that song).

Thank you ALL for the sweet comments on my last post! You guys are the best. :) I did end up sewing a sash on the dress and will post pictures of that soonish.

Here are some favorite unedited pictures from an afternoon at the beach. I was surprised my dad suggested it. The light was perfect and the weather was gorgeous. We will definitely have to visit this beach again!
