Ansley's Birthday Dress

Ansley's birthday is at the end of the month. A few months ago, she decided she wanted to have a flower party. I'm not sure if we're actually going to have a party but I did agree to a flower dress. She picked out the fabrics and helped design the dress and we love it!!

modified geranium dress (pattern by made by rae) by replicate then deviate

The dress is based on the Geranium Dress pattern by Made by Rae. (You can see her previous Geranium's here)

The modifications are:
lengthened the bodice
added a seven inch zipper
added width to the pleated skirt option (so I could keep the pockets and the a line)
added a second skirt (with no pockets)
added eyelet trim
bias binding on the inside (to make up for my miscalculations with the zipper and the lining)

The fabrics are:
Lush Sky Zinnia Garden by Patty Young for Michael Miller (found at Porter's but here's another shop)- Pretty much the dreamiest fabric! Love the colors, design, and feel
bodice lining- aqua quilting cotton from Joann (google search failed here but I have lots more fabric and cut out another dress in it so you'll see it eventually)
skirt lining- Tiana fabric no longer available from Joann (Ansley really wanted it one day and I don't love character faces on clothes so this is a good compromise)

Here's a peek at the inside. Maybe one day I'll buy a double zipper and make it reversible (obviously reversing the lining fabric so it shows right side out when the dress is reversed). . . . And one day I'll learn how to sew a zipper with a lining so that the zipper is between the lining and the outer fabric. . . .

Another Quick Trip in Pictures and Chronological Order

She did better than I did my first time with chopsticks, when I was in Brownie Girl Scouts and trying to pick up cheerios.

I Had Another Birthday

It was fun, I was spoiled, and it was a while ago. :)

And made a bunch of pillowcases using this tutorial. (and it took a lot longer than fifteen minutes b/c I don't have one sewing and ironing space).

(Ansley was reading the sign in the corner to the other kids and telling them it said not to climb on the dinosaur bones. But really, if there are (replica) dinosaur bones in a kids' play area, are they really not going to climb them?!)
