(aka the world's most comfortable dress and one that I will surely live in this summer!)
(all pictures by my seven year old)
I feel like I'm winning the pattern testing lottery lately and I'm grateful. I enjoy getting to sew up patterns early and seeing all the work that goes into creating an outstanding PDF pattern. I also enjoy making sewing friends! And pattern testing helps me get through The Stash quicker. (I'm actually 9/9 for items sewn this year that have come solely from The Stash except for the 12 inches I was short on bias tape for a baby blanket).
The Greenstyle Scarlet Swing Dress is incredibly versatile. It has five sleeve lengths (including a bell sleeve), a cold shoulder option, a tunic length, an above knee length, an above knee length high/low, below knee length, and below knee length high/low.
This is the elbow sleeves and below knee high/low. The lovely drapey fabric is from the Leisureletics line at Joann's. The employees there have commented I have probably bought more from that line than anyone else at the store. It is lighter weight and more prone to snagging than the compression fabric I bought. I had originally planned to make joggers with it but then I was worried it might be a little see through. Anyway, I'm glad the joggers didn't happen because it was perfect for this dress! I like how the shoulders/sleeves/bust are fitted/shaped in contrast to the wide hem and swing style. I almost made the long sleeved option until I thought how nice and breezy it will be in the summer.
I did shorten the back by 1.5 inches because it fell at the widest part of my calves but that's the beauty of sewing for yourself! You can make adjustments to fit your body and your preferences!
I think this dress would be cute paired with a moto jacket or blazer or Sundance Jacket for spring/fall/winter and on its own in the summer.
I also tested the short sleeved/tunic length in cotton lycra. The fabric shop I bought it from sadly closed. The only thing different on this one is the final neckband was increased by 1.5 inches.
Isn't it interesting how fabric choice changes the overall look? I love both of these for different reasons/purposes.
The tunic would be so cute paired with Stride Tights or Inspire Tights. I didn't have time to sew a pair before taking these pictures but these leggings are from my friend's shop, Pocket Innerwear. They make layering pieces designed to hold diabetic pumps or cell phones.
